Granada

Elegant, postcard perfect and charming are three words that perfectly describe this colonial city. Getting to Granada from Managua is easy, simply hop onto the $1 one-hour bus that leaves every 20 minutes between 4 am and 7 pm. Granada is easily one of the most tourist-friendly cities in Nicaragua, and it won’t surprise visitors that there are a ton of activities, hotels, hostels and restaurants here. With some of the most well-preserved architecture in the country, it is easy to spend an entire day wandering through the streets marvelling at the buildings and churches. Visitors should plan on savouring vigoron, a local dish made up of cabbage and pork, from one of the many street stalls. In this city, visitors can spend hours in horse-drawn carriages touring the cobbled streets, taking scenic journeys in the countryside during the day and dining in incredible local restaurants at night. Venturing out of the city is easy and leads to kayak trips in the nearby islets as well as leisure visits to the nearby hot springs or farmer’s markets.
