AHMEDABAD: The Sharad Joshi-led Shetkari Sangathan has rallied support for cotton farmers in Gujarat who are being threatened that their standing crops may be destroyed as they had used an unapproved hybrid variety of genetically-engineered seeds.

Veteran farmer leader and founder of the Shetkari Sanghatana, Sharad Joshi, is all set to snap ties with the BJP and extend support to the Aam Admi Party (AAP) ahead of the Lok Sabha elections this year.

Sharad Joshi, who breathed his last at Pune on Saturday, will long be remembered for pioneering a farmers’ movement that impacted many a decision. It was in Vidarbha that the Shetkari Sanghatana had its roots and which went on to launch agitations in the best interest of farmers.

Marathwada unit of farmer organisation Shetkari Sanghatana will hold a condolence meet at Yashwantrao Chavan Auditorium to pay tribute to their leader Sharad Joshi on Tuesday.

Neha Joshi, daughter of Sharad Joshi, a scriptwriter of the 1984 comedy show on Doordarshan- Yeh Jo Hai Zindgai, has filed a petition against Shah Rukh Khan's company, Red Chillies Private Ltd, NDTV Imagine channel and the Oberois for copying their show without prior permission.
