Drone Destination and DeHaat have joined forces to integrate drone technology into Indian agriculture. The partnership will offer drone spraying services while promoting DeHaat’s agricultural products. With a network of over 14,000 centers across 11 states, this initiative aims to boost farm productivity and sustainability for more than 27 lakh farmers.

Farmers in the border district of Chamarajanagar are eager to leverage technology to improve their yield, and to this end, they could soon employ quad copters or drones to spray pesticides and fertiliser on their crops. Field trials conducted using drones procured from a Chennai-based firm by Chamarajanagar Krishi Vignana Kendra (CKVK) have yielded desirable results, and they are keen on putting it to use on the farms.

Spraying larvicides on water-bodies using drones has the potential to reduce mosquito count by 90% and would also be costeffective, a preliminary study done by Greater Chennai Corporation has shown.

Indian Air Force choppers will now be deployed to tackle the locust menace. The agriculture ministry is importing high-powered spraying equipment from EU that will be fitted on five Mi-17 helicopters for IAF for spraying on locust swarms. The aviation ministry had last month allowed the agriculture ministry to use drones to spray for anti-locust operations.

According to company founder and CEO Agnishwar Jayaprakash, the product will be available in the market by the end of 2022.
