Following a recommendation of the preliminary inquiry, the BMC has started full-fledged departmental enquiry against assistant municipal commissioner Mahesh Patil over allegations of corrupt practices and graft related to a jumbo Covid centre contract during the pandemic. “A report will be submitted in the first week of June,” BMC chief Iqbal Chahal told TOI. Officials said based on the report, a decision on giving sanction to the ACB’s request for investigation will be taken.

The state government will soon set up an inquiry committee against Mumbai University’s authorities for purchasing “top-end” automobiles three years ago. The decision was taken on Friday at the university’s senate meeting.

In what will bring cheer to students, the Mumbai University has decided to not keep Semester 5 and 7 results in reserve. The decision was taken after the varsity’s senate members complained about the large pile of results that were not declared for want of eligibility documents from colleges.

The Mumbai BMC commissioner asked an additional municipal commissioner to investigate corruption allegations against a ward officer and summit a report within three weeks earlier. MNS activists had complained to him demanding a departmental enquiry against ward officer Makarand Dagadkhair who had changed his name to Mahesh Patil and allegedly followed corrupt practices while awarding a service contract for the Malad Covid field hospital. MNS spokesperson Sandeep Deshpande had submitted similar complaint to the state ACB. Deshpande had produced bank statements and WhatsApp messages purportedly between Patil and Yuva Sena’s Vaibhav Thorat discussing a bribe linked to the hospital contract. Deshpande said an unknown person had left this evidence in his office.
