BJP MLA Nitesh Rane was denied anticipatory bail by the Sindhudurg district court on Thursday in an attempt to murder case in which he is named as an accused. The order came on a day opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis demanded that a First Information Report be filed against the police who had served a notice to Union minister Narayan Rane asking him about his son Nitesh’s whereabouts. Fadnavis pointed out that the police had forgotten that anyone above 65 years of age cannot be called to the police station to record her/his statement. Rather, the statement must be recorded at their home.

A day after the Sindhudurg district and sessions court principal judge S V Hande granted regular bail the BJP’s Malvan MLA Nitesh Rane, he was formally released from the Rajarshee Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Government Medical College and CPR Hospital, Kolhapur on Thursday.

A court in Maharashtra's Sindhudurg district granted bail on Wednesday to Congress MLA Nitesh Rane and 18 others, arrested for assaulting an engineer of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
