The Orissa high court has put the curtains down on a PIL seeking a CBI probe for proper investigation into the murder of a five-year-old girl in Nayagarh district.

The Puri SP informed the Orissa high court on Monday that the state government has sanctioned an interim compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the next of the kin of the man, who died owing to alleged torture in custody.

The Orissa high court has ordered urgent action to address infrastructural deficiencies and accessibility issues for disabled students at Shailabala Women’s Autonomous College. An inquiry report confirmed a lack of basic facilities, including inadequate ramps, accessible furniture, and assistive devices. The court has directed relevant departments to submit a plan by October 28.
