200 big cats poached in 20 years, RTI reveals central India as hotspot

Over 200 big cats, including tigers and leopards, were poached in India between 2005 and December 2025, with central India a major hotspot for tiger killings. Leopard poaching, however, is more widespread, particularly in Himalayan states. International demand for body parts fuels this lucrative illegal trade, experts reveal.
