Lt Gen Kamal Davar is one of India's leading military experts. He is a Veteran of the 1965 and 1971 operations and was wounded in action in the 1965 ops in the Lahore sector. He has served in erstwhile NEFA, Nagaland, Ladakh, J&K and was a Corps Commander in Punjab. He was a member of the Indian Training Team in Iraq besides being an Instructor in the Senior Command Wing In the War College in Mhow. He was the first Armoured Corps officer to be sent as GOC of the entire Ladakh sector. After a short stint as DG Mechanised Forces, Gen Davar was specially selected by the Govt to raise the Defence Intelligence Agency as its first DG and Deputy Chief of the Integrated Defence Staff. where he was reputed to have taken many intelligence initiatives both at home and abroad. After retirement the General Officer has been busy writing and lecturing on matters of national security. He has also been participating in Track 2 diplomacy besides having been a member of the International High Level Military Group monitoring Israeli operations in Gaza and West Bank. Gen Davar has authored two books besides writing in the national media and has nearly 300 articles published in various military journals and the media. He also heads the Delhi Forum For Strategic Studies, the Strategic Studies Cell in Kasauli and is a Distinguished Fellow at The Peninsula Foundation, Chennai. He is also busy with environmental conservation activities in Himachal Pradesh.
