This is the world’s best-selling smartphone right now
Apple dominated the global smartphone charts in the quarter, securing five spots in the top 10 best-selling models, ahead of Samsung with four entries and Xiaomi with one. According to a report by Counterpoint Research, together, the top 10 smartphones accounted for 23% of total global handset sales during the period, underlining a continued concentration of demand around a handful of high-volume models. Leading the rankings was Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro Max, followed closely by the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro. The strong performance of the iPhone 17 lineup was driven by meaningful hardware upgrades, including a higher refresh rate display, increased base storage, and improved RAM, as per the report. These enhancements appear to have translated into stronger consumer demand, allowing the newer models to outperform their predecessors in the same quarter, claims the report. Samsung, while trailing Apple in overall representation, maintained a strong presence in the Android segment. The Galaxy A56 emerged as the best-selling Android smartphone globally, with the Galaxy A36 and the entry-level Galaxy A07 also featuring prominently in the rankings. The continued success of Samsung’s Galaxy A series highlights the importance of affordability and wide availability, particularly in price-sensitive markets where value-for-money devices tend to dominate volumes, noted the report.
At the premium end, Samsung’s Galaxy S25 managed to secure the tenth position. The model’s performance reflects the company’s sustained focus on flagship devices, with an increasing emphasis on AI-driven features. Seasonal promotions and marketing efforts in the latter half of the quarter are also likely to have contributed to its inclusion in the top 10. Meanwhile, Xiaomi’s Redmi A5 took the ninth spot, driven largely by strong demand in emerging regions such as Latin America and the Middle East and Africa (MEA). The device’s performance underscores Xiaomi’s continued reliance on entry-level and budget-friendly smartphones to capture market share in developing markets, where affordability remains a key purchase driver, as per Counterpoint Research.
