Elon Musk targets Sam Altman’s OpenAI, says: ChatGPT makes money by 'dangerously lying' about users ...
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has once again criticized Sam Altman-led OpenAI of “lying”. In a post on microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter), Musk wrote: “The sycophantic approach of ChatGPT, which maximizes the money they make by lying to users and agreeing with their dangerous delusions, needs to stop!”. The tech billionaire was responding to Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier’s video post announcing that the state has launched an investigation into OpenAI and ChatGPT citing national security concerns. “Today, we launched an investigation into OpenAI and ChatGPT. AI should advance mankind, not destroy it. We’re demanding answers on OpenAI’s activities that have hurt kids, endangered Americans, and facilitated the recent FSU mass shooting. Wrongdoers must be held accountable,” James Uthmeier wrote on X. The investigation comes after a shooting at Florida State University on April 17, 2025, in which two people were killed and five others were injured.

Florida AG launches investigation into OpenAI

The Florida AG cited concerns over national security for probing OpenAI after reports of ChatGPT's alleged role in a mass shooting at Florida State University last year.In the video, Florida AG James Uthmeier said: “AI should advance mankind, not destroy it”.
"As Big Tech rolls out these technologies they should not — they cannot — put our safety and security at risk," he said. "We support innovation, but that doesn’t give any company the right to endanger our children, facilitate criminal activity, empower America’s enemies or threaten our national security.""I call on the Florida Legislature to work quickly on implementing protections to safeguard our children from the dangers of AI and to further empower my office of Attorney General to fight these evils," he added.“We're demanding answers on OpenAI's activities that have hurt kids, endangered Americans, and facilitated the recent FSU mass shooting. ChatGPT has also been linked to criminal behavior, including child sex abuse material use by child predators, and the encouragement of suicide and self harm," Uthmeier added.

OpenAI responds to the Florida probe

As per an Axios report, OpenAI said in a statement: “We build ChatGPT to understand people's intent and respond in a safe and appropriate way, and we continue improving our technology. We will cooperate with the Attorney General's investigation”.
