Connor McDavid, the captain of Team Canada's men's ice hockey squad, has been named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the men's tournament at the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, even though Canada finished with the silver medal following a dramatic overtime 2-1 loss in the gold-medal game on Sunday.
According to TSN, McDavid led the tournament with 13 points in six games, setting a new record at the Olympics. He finished with two goals and 11 assists, making him the player with the most assists ever recorded in a single Olympic tournament featuring an NHL player.
His contribution to the team was instrumental throughout Canada’s final run, earning him an additional recognition as the tournament’s Best Forward, too. As reported by Sportsnet, the Edmonton Oilers captain was also named to the tournament all-star team, along with Canadian teammates Cale Makar and Macklin Celebrini.

Reports suggest McDavid led the tournament in scoring with two goals and 11 assists. His 13 points set the record for most points of any player in a single Olympic tournament with NHL participation. He was also picked as the tournament's best forward.
Earlier, Connor McDavid was given the captaincy of the team in the absence of Sidney Crosby, who was ruled out of the tournament due to a severe injury that he sustained during their quarterfinal match at the Olympics.
Besides, the Edmonton Oilers star also created history on Friday at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, establishing a new record for most points by a player in a single Olympic men’s hockey tournament. According to reports, he has recorded the most points in a single Olympic tournament involving NHL players, with 12 points during Canada’s semifinal against Finland at the Milan Cortina Games.
In addition to this, American defenceman Quinn Hughes was named as the tournament’s top defenceman. At the same time, the United States’ Connor Hellebuyck was the best goaltender at the Winter Olympic Games, along with three players named to the tournament All-Star team, including Cale Makar, Macklin Celebrini, and Slovakian forward Juraj Slafkovsky.
