Did Rashan Gary’s goodbye post hint at a Packers trade? “Hacked” claim surfaces after viral message
That explanation came after the message had already spread widely across social media. The timing of the situation also drew attention. The Packers had just managed to move under the NFL salary cap earlier this week, which means the team now has flexibility in how it handles several roster decisions this offseason. Because of that context, the unexpected message from Gary quickly became a major talking point among fans and NFL reporters.
Rashan Gary’s social media post and Packers salary cap situation spark speculation
The message posted on Rashan Gary’s accounts sounded very much like a farewell to Green Bay. In the statement, the pass rusher reflected on the moment he joined the team in 2019 and thanked fans for their support.Gary wrote, “When I got the call in 2019, it was one of the greatest moments of my life, and it always will be. The opportunity to represent Green Bay and Packers Nation across the country and around the world is something I will never forget.”
The message ended with a confident note about his future. Gary added, “On to my next stop — nowhere near done yet. All 6’5”, 275… can’t wait.”
Soon after the post went viral, several Packers reporters said the team’s understanding was that Gary’s accounts had been hacked. That explanation raised eyebrows for some observers because the post appeared on multiple platforms and even included a graphic.
According to ESPN reporter Adam Schefter, no official move has been made regarding Gary’s future. Schefter wrote, “Packers edge Rashan Gary has not been released at this time. No definitive action has been taken. All options still remain on the table, including a potential trade.”
The Packers recently restructured safety Xavier McKinney’s contract, a move that helped the team get under the salary cap before the new league year begins on March 11. Because of that move, Green Bay does not need to make immediate roster decisions.
General manager Brian Gutekunst has also said that players currently under contract for 2026 are expected to return for the season. For now, Gary remains part of that group while the team evaluates its next steps during the offseason.
