Andy Reid signals major offseason decisions ahead for the Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are heading into an offseason that could define the next phase of the franchise. After a rare losing season and missing the playoffs, change feels unavoidable. Head coach Andy Reid has made it clear that the coming months will be important, with tough decisions expected across the roster.

Speaking to reporters, Reid struck a calm but honest tone. He confirmed that general manager Brett Veach will now take full control of draft and free agency plans, while the coaching staff focuses on reviewing what went wrong and how to fix it.

Reid stressed that the Chiefs still believe in their process. According to him, the team has already been evaluating itself throughout the season, but the offseason allows for a deeper reset. Every position group, coaching decision, and missed opportunity will now be reviewed in detail.



Despite the disappointment of the season, Reid said the organization is confident it has a strong core to build around. However, he also admitted that standing still is not an option.

One of the biggest issues facing the Chiefs is the salary cap. Kansas City is projected to be well over the limit when the new league year begins. While that number looks worrying, the team has navigated similar situations before.

Restructured contracts, extensions, and possible roster cuts are expected. Once the cap situation is fixed, the real pressure begins, as there will be very little room for mistakes.



Quarterback depth is an early concern. Patrick Mahomes is dealing with a knee injury, and his recovery timeline could stretch into next season. That makes adding a reliable backup a logical step, either through free agency or the draft.

Tight end is another position under the spotlight. Travis Kelce’s future remains uncertain, and his absence would leave a massive gap in leadership and production. While Noah Gray has shown promise, he has not yet proven he can fully replace Kelce’s role in the offense.

For the first time in years, the Chiefs hold a top-10 draft pick. That gives Brett Veach more options and access to higher-level talent. Pass rush help is expected to be high on the list after an inconsistent defensive season.

This was Kansas City’s worst season in more than a decade, and Reid admitted it exposed several flaws. Younger players failed to take the expected leap, and the roster often felt unbalanced. Still, Reid remains confident. The foundation is still there, but how the Chiefs handle this offseason will decide whether they return to title contention.
