Swiss skier Malorie Blanc produced the biggest moment of her young career by winning the women’s super-G World Cup race in Crans-Montana. The 22-year-old clocked 1min 17.34sec to secure her first-ever World Cup victory. It was also only the second podium finish of her career, coming just weeks before the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics. Blanc’s win came on a perfect snow day and lifted the mood in a town still recovering from a deadly bar fire that killed 40 people last month.Racing in front of home fans, Blanc beat some of the biggest names in women’s alpine skiing. Italy’s Sofia Goggia finished second, 0.18 seconds behind, while American Breezy Johnson took third place. The result made Blanc the surprise star of the final women’s World Cup race before the Olympics. Lindsey Vonn did not compete after hurting her left knee in a downhill crash a day earlier, making Blanc’s breakthrough even more eye-catching.

Malorie Blanc’s rise in Swiss Skiing, win ahead of Milan-Cortina Games 2026

Malorie Blanc is one of Switzerland’s brightest young speed skiers. She comes from Ayent, a small town just 20 minutes from Crans-Montana. That made her victory even more special for local fans.
After crossing the line, Blanc shared her emotions. “I’m so happy for myself and also for the fans,” she told RTS.Blanc described her winning run as far from perfect. “It was a crazy run. It was a bit freestyle. I knew it didn’t need a perfect run to win. But I did the job and I’m pleased I was able to show what I can do”, she said as reported by Associated Press. Her relaxed but confident approach paid off against a strong field. Before this race, Blanc had only one World Cup podium. She finished second in a downhill in St Anton earlier this month. She had also placed second in Austria a year ago, showing steady progress. In 2024, Blanc won junior world titles in super-G and team combined, marking her as a future star. Her victory denied Italy a possible one-two finish. Laura Pirovano was leading by a big margin but missed the penultimate gate. Sofia Goggia, the 2018 Olympic downhill champion, praised her own attacking style despite finishing second. With the Olympics now days away, Blanc’s timing could not be better. She heads to Cortina d’Ampezzo with confidence, momentum, and the belief that she belongs among the world’s best.
