Antonio Felix Da Costa plays padel with Arvid Lindblad, breaks down Formula E’s Attack Mode for new fans

Antonio Felix Da Costa is making the most of the Christmas and New Year break after Formula E Season 12 kicked off with the Sao Paulo E-Prix. The Jaguar TCS Racing driver recently got together with his brother Pedro Felix Da Costa, aspiring F1 rookie Arvid Lindblad, and another friend for a friendly game. The Formula E star also shared a video in which he took it upon himself to explain the Attack Mode feature, which is unique to Formula E, for new fans of the sport.

Antonio Felix da Costa took to his Instagram Stories to share a picture featuring four racing drivers: Arvid Lindblad, Duarte P. Coelho, Pedro Felix Da Costa, and himself, after they played a match together. The group appeared to be enjoying a game of padel during the off-season break.

Antonio Felix Da Costa also shared a video on Instagram explaining the Attack Mode feature, especially for fans who are new to electric motorsport. The feature gives a Formula E driver an added energy boost during a race, which, when used at the right time, can unexpectedly change the outcome.


“What is ‘Attack Mode’? Let’s explain it in under 30 seconds!” he wrote in the caption of the first episode of his At Track With Dak series.

The 33-year-old explained in the video while walking on the track: “Let me simplify it for you. Let’s talk about Attack Mode, and I’m going to explain it to you in 30 seconds. Attack Mode is very simple, it’s a little bit of a Mario Kart feature where we go a little bit offline, cross over three loops, and activate eight minutes of extra power: 50 kilowatts, roughly 75 horsepower, and also four-wheel drive.”

“So you see the cars having a lot of different power and performance at that stage of the race. Everybody has to do it twice and use those eight minutes. It’s a very powerful tool to move forward in a race, overtake, defend positions, and ultimately win a race,” he added.

Da Costa made his Jaguar TCS Racing debut at the Sao Paulo E-Prix after switching from Porsche. However, the race did not go as planned, as Cupra Kiro rookie Josep “Pepe” Martí hit his car, ending his chances of fighting for a podium. Fortunately, none of the drivers were injured after the dramatic crash, which saw Martí’s car fly into the air and land back on the track in pieces.
