PSG continued their ominous return to peak form, thrashing Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge to seal a dominant 8-2 aggregate victory. The tie was effectively over early as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia struck inside six minutes, capitalising on a defensive error on Mamadou Sarr’s debut.
Further goals from Bradley Barcola, assisted by Achraf Hakimi, and substitute Senny Mayulu sealed a comprehensive win, with home fans heading for the exits long before full-time.
“We clearly dominated, we are very happy to be in the quarter-finals and I think it is well deserved,” said PSG coach Luis Enrique. PSG will now face either Liverpool or Galatasaray in the last eight.
Real dominate City; Arsenal keep quadruple dream alive
Chelsea were not the only English side to fall, as Manchester City crashed out 5-1 on aggregate despite a 2-1 defeat at home to Real Madrid. The Spanish giants had already taken control in the first leg, highlighted by a hat-trick from Federico Valverde.
City’s task became impossible after Bernardo Silva was sent off early for handball, allowing Vinicius Junior to convert from the spot. Erling Haaland briefly equalised on the night, but Vinicius struck again late to seal another statement win.
“All of us players know that the good games are coming and when Madrid play in this competition, everything changes,” said Vinicius.
Meanwhile, Arsenal kept their trophy ambitions alive with a 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen, progressing 3-1 on aggregate. Eberechi Eze and Declan Rice struck on either side of half-time to seal the tie.
“We had four or five situations where we should have scored a third but overall we fully deserved to win,” said coach Mikel Arteta.
Sporting’s extra-time heroics end Bodo/Glimt dream
In Lisbon, Sporting produced one of the nights of the tournament, overturning a 3-0 first-leg deficit to beat Bodo/Glimt 5-0 after extra time. Goals from Goncalo Inacio, Pedro Goncalves and a Luis Suarez penalty forced extra time.
Maxi Araujo then put Sporting ahead in the tie before Rafael Nel sealed a famous win late on.
The result sent Sporting into the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite competition for the first time since 1983, bringing an end to Bodo/Glimt’s remarkable journey.
