With the FIFA World Cup 2026 just days away, several of the tournament's leading contenders fine-tuned their preparations with encouraging victories in their final round of international friendlies.
Brazil, Argentina, Belgium and Portugal all recorded important wins, while Germany continued their impressive form with a hard-fought victory over co-hosts United States as teams across the globe completed their last competitive rehearsals before the tournament begins in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Endrick fires Brazil past Egypt
Five-time world champions Brazil wrapped up their World Cup preparations with a 2-1 victory over Egypt at Huntington Bank Field. Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimarães opened the scoring after capitalizing on a defensive mistake from Mohanad Lasheen before calmly finishing into the far corner.
Egypt responded through Mostafa Ziko, who intercepted an errant back pass from Marquinhos and slotted past Alisson Becker to level the scores. However, Brazil regained control in the second half when teenage sensation Endrick, introduced at halftime, met Raphinha's inviting cross with a first-time finish to secure victory for the Seleção.
Brazil will begin their World Cup campaign against Morocco in New Jersey, while Egypt face Belgium in Seattle in their opening fixture.
Argentina cruise past Honduras
Defending world champions Argentina continued their smooth preparations with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Honduras in Texas. Lionel Scaloni's side controlled possession throughout and produced another disciplined defensive display to record a clean sheet ahead of their title defense.
The result extended Argentina's positive momentum as they look to become the first nation since Brazil in 1962 to successfully defend the World Cup crown.
Germany edge United States
Germany maintained their excellent form by defeating World Cup co-hosts United States 2-1 at Chicago's Soldier Field.
Kai Havertz handed the Germans an early advantage before Antonee Robinson brought the home crowd to life with a stunning long-range strike. The decisive moment arrived when Leroy Sané found space and fired past goalkeeper Matt Freese to secure Germany's ninth consecutive victory heading into the tournament.
Despite the defeat, Mauricio Pochettino's United States side showed encouraging signs ahead of their World Cup opener.
Portugal overcome Chile despite red card drama
Portugal secured a 2-1 victory over Chile in Oeiras, though the win was overshadowed by Rafael Leão's first-half dismissal for an off-the-ball altercation with defender Iván Román. After a cagey opening period, Portugal found their rhythm in the second half. Gonçalo Guedes broke the deadlock before Bruno Fernandes added a second to put the match beyond Chile's reach.
Cristiano Ronaldo featured during the opening half as Portugal concluded their preparations on a winning note.
Belgium dominate Tunisia
Belgium produced one of the standout performances of the international window, thrashing Tunisia 5-0 in Brussels. Leandro Trossard opened the scoring after excellent work from Jeremy Doku before Charles De Ketelaere doubled the advantage early in the second half.
Tunisia's task became even harder when Ismael Garbi was sent off shortly after the restart. Kevin De Bruyne added Belgium's third goal before substitutes Dodi Lukebakio and Nicolas Raskin completed the rout in the closing stages.
Elsewhere, Türkiye continued their strong form with a 2-1 win over Venezuela, while England edged New Zealand 1-0 thanks to Harry Kane's decisive strike.
Should Cristiano Ronaldo play a more significant role in Portugal World Cup campaign?
Romania defeated Wales 2-1, and World Cup co-hosts Canada were held to a 1-1 draw by the Republic of Ireland.
