India vs Australia 1st Test Day 2 Highlights: India 321/7 at stumps, lead Australia by 144 runs

HUNDRED! Skipper Rohit Sharma brought up his ninth Test hundred, off 171 balls, with a four off Todd Murphy. And India went past Australia's first innings total of 177 in the over too. India are in the lead now with five wickets in hand and Rohit going strong after hitting his first hundred as Test captain.

BIG WICKET! Nathan Lyon came into the attack and castled debutant Suryakumar Yadav (8) off the first ball itself. Surya went for a drive but the ball went through the gate to clean bowled him. Good 30 minutes or so for Australia in the post-lunch session. India still trailing the visitors by six runs.

Three consecutive tidy overs from Australian bowlers. Just six singles in three overs. India batters are looking to steady the ship a bit after losing Virat Kohli early in the post-lunch session.

BIG WICKET! What a start to the second session. Todd Murphy struck with the first ball itself, dismissing Virat Kohli (12). Kohli went for a flick but the edge was caught by keeper Alex Carey down the leg side. Suryakumar Yadav then started his Test career with a sweep shot towards backward square leg for a four.

Former India wicketkeeper MSK Prasad got emotional when debutant KS Bharat swiftly removed the bails to stump Marnus Labuschagne off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling on Thursday. It took him back nearly 20 years, when he saw Bharat for the first time. When Prasad first noticed him, Bharat had been keeping wickets for barely a year. Bharat’s coach Krishna Rao had picked him from inter-district tournaments.

A session of two halves on the second day. The first hour belonged to India as they added 40 runs for no loss in it, but debutant Todd Murphy brought Australia back in the contest with two wickets in the second hour of the morning session. Murphy dismissed Ravichandran Ashwin (23) and Cheteshwar Pujara (7) to not allow India to go away with the game. India only managed to add 34 runs for the loss of two wickets in the second half of the session. Good news for India is that skipper Rohit Sharma (85*) is going strong in the middle and Virat Kohli (12*) looks in good touch too.

A wicket-maiden for Todd Murphy. The debutant spinner dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara in it. Pujara went for a sweep and top-edged it straight to Boland at short fine leg. Big wicket for Australia.

4 0 0 0 0 4 - Good one for India. Rohit Sharma (81*) started and ended Todd Murphy over with a four each. Rohit hit the first one towards deep mid-wicket and the next towards square leg. Boundaries coming at regular intervals for India at the moment.

Big breakthrough for Australia. Todd Murphy got his second wicket of the match, trapping Ravichandran Ashwin (23 off 62) leg before wicket. The visitors needed a review to overturn the not out decision from the on-field umpire. Ashwin added a valuable 42 runs for the second wicket with skipper Rohit Sharma. Cheteshwar Pujara came to bat at No. 4 and hit a four through covers in it.

DRINKS BREAK! India aced the first hour of play on the second day, scoring 40 runs without losing a wicket in 15 overs. Rohit Sharma (73*) and Ravichandran Ashwin (22*) are going strong in the middle for the hosts.

After two sixes in the last two overs, a welcome tidy one from Scott Boland. Only one leg bye in it. Both the India batters are looking in good touch at the moment.

Good half-an-hour or so for India on Day 2. Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin have added 25 runs in 8 overs so far.

Another tidy one from Nathan Lyon, just a single off it.

Ravichandran Ashwin (10*) hit his second four of the innings off Pat Cummins to score five runs off the Aussie skipper. India are slowly moving forward in the game.

Pace from one end for Australia. Pat Cummins bowled a tidy one, giving away just two runs in it. Ravi Ashwin yet to open his account after facing 9 balls.

Rohit Sharma (57*) started the second day's proceedings with a single off Todd Murphy.

"We've seen nine out of the eleven wickets fall to spin. 65 of which were bowled by spin, so say no more. When you think about the wickets that actually were yesterday, a lot of them were actually in and around the straight - turning out of that area. Labuschagne had his method to go inside-out and stayed on-side of the ball. You see this breakup towards the left-hander batting. Axar Patel from over the wicket is going to be a nightmare. Lots of pebbles and different debris that's shattering over the top of this wicket. It's going to be spin, spin, spin and more spin.
