Venezuela’s Defence Minister Vladimir Padrino López held a solemn ceremony honoring the military and civilian personnel killed during the U.S. military operation on January 3, which resulted in the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. Padrino said dozens of members of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces gave their lives defending the nation against what Caracas calls a U.S. attack, and he announced support measures for the bereaved families and wounded. The defence ministry confirmed at least 47 Venezuelan soldiers, including nine women, and 32 Cuban military personnel were killed in the operation. A special commission has been formed to provide social and economic help to families of the dead and injured.
