Sources in the ED, which examined the BSP's account in Union Bank of India's Karol Bagh branch on Monday, claimed the outlawed currency deposits were made between December 2 and 9. The BSP has several accounts in different banks in the Capital and outside. Of the total deposit of Rs 104 crore, Rs 101 crore came in notes of Rs 1,000, with those of Rs 500 accounting for the rest.

The Delhi government has asked all its departments to make electronic payments to suppliers, contractors and institutions if the order value exceeds Rs 5,000. The Finance Department of the Delhi government has issued an office memorandum deciding to implement the recent order of the Union Finance Ministry in this regard to promote e-payments. In the memorandum, the department has asked that payments should be made to contractors, suppliers and institutions through Real-Time Gross Settlement Systems (RTGS), National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) and Electronic Clearing Service (ECS).

"Prime Minister is changing rules on demonetisation as if he is changing clothes. A man wearing suit worth Rs 10 lakh cannot call himself a fakir," Babbar said. State congress vice president Imran Masood also hit out at Modi during the rally, saying, "Narendra Modi has failed to fulfill his promises and caused problems to people after demonetisation".

The income tax department and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which launched a crackdown on District Co-operative Central (DCC) banks in Karnataka, reportedly found Rs 162 crore in cash deposits made at Bagalkot DCC bank alone, ranging between Rs 25 lakh and Rs 2 crore, soon after demonetisation was announced on November 8. This is said to be the highest deposits made among all the DCC banks in the state.

Banks at many places are not in a position to disburse even the current limit of Rs 24,000 per week due to cash crunch and are rationing the valid currency depending on cash availability.

The ED has written to four banks, accusing their officials of helping a bullion trader based at Zaveri Bazar of bringing in Rs 150 crore in demonetised currency into legal channels through fictitious transactions. The cash was deposited into accounts of several shell companies (entities that exist only on paper) immediately after demonetisation and then transferred into the trader's account through RTGS (real-time gross settlement system) to create a purportedly legitimate trail.

Surat-based financier Kishore Bhajiawala, from whom the income tax (I-T) department recovered Rs 10.45 crore in unaccounted for income, used dummy bank accounts to launder black money. Bhajiawala also held property worth Rs 400 crore. He had used around 700 persons for depositing and withdrawing money after demonetization, CBI sources said.
