NRGs in poll mode

NRGs in poll mode
E-canvassing is the buzzword in the US.
NEW JERSEY: The election fever has caught on with party supporters miles away from Gujarat.
Mass emails, phone-calls, circulation of fliers and full page advertisements in local ethnic dailies supporting their leaders - NRGs in the US are leaving no stone unturned in campaigning for their party. With technology to their aid, they are making dedicated efforts to reach out to their family, friends, relatives and acquaintances in Gujarat urging them to vote for candidates from the party they support.

Though as such there are no numbers available about the number of NRGs, who have landed in Gujarat specifically for this purpose, many supporters visiting India during this time are expected to influence their close circles. "Unless they have their names in the voter's list, NRGs can't vote. But when they go there and approach the people in their network and seek their votes for their party it surely makes an impact," says Suresh Jani, coordinator, Overseas Friends of BJP. While the OFBJP has released a number of advertisements in local ethnic papers supporting chief minister Narendra Modi, his individual supporters have been giving out advertisements at their own expense too. "We are sure that BJP will win more than 120 seats," says Jani.
Active supporters of the Congress party are also reportedly in Gujarat campaigning. Dr Harshad Bhatt, president, Gujarat Congress America, New York, says, "Our party has our complete support. We are not involved in any fundraising, but our members who are traveling to Gujarat will surely pitch in the campaigning process."
A completely new outfit Friends of Gujarat formed by like-minded individuals, apparently including members from BJP affiliated parties, is actively campaigning in support of Modi. Satya Dosatati, a member, says, "We were amazed by what he has done for the state. We created the website from the funds we collected here. We are asking people to request their friends and relatives in Gujarat to vote for him."
