Thick winter fog blanketed Delhi and large parts of north India early on Monday, severely disrupting air and rail traffic and causing inconvenience to thousands of passengers. According to information shared by
NewsonAir (government affiliated site), visibility dropped sharply across the National Capital Region (NCR) during the early morning hours, impacting flight operations at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport and delaying several trains across the Northern Railway network.
As per the report, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for Delhi for December 30, warning of dense to very dense fog at several places in north India. Fog conditions are expected to persist and may continue to affect travel plans during the New Year period.

The official handle of Airport Authority of India on X also shared, “Due to prevailing fog conditions today, 30 December 2025, visibility levels across Northern India have reduced at select airports. This may impact flight operations, including possible delays. Passengers are advised to stay in close contact with their respective airlines through official communication channels for the latest flight updates. Travellers should also plan their journeys accordingly by allowing additional time for airport arrival and check-in procedures. AAI has activated passenger facilitation measures and deployed assistance teams at affected airports to support travelers on the ground.

The official handle of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India, on X also shared, “Amid prevailing fog and low-visibility conditions impacting flights in parts of Northern India, passengers are advised to proactively check flight status, remain in contact with their airlines and allow extra travel time. Airlines have been instructed to strictly comply with passenger facilitation norms, including timely flight information, meals for delayed passengers, rebooking or refunds in case of cancellations, no denial of boarding after timely check-in, baggage facilitation and prompt grievance redressal. The Ministry of Civil Aviation remains committed to passenger safety, convenience and well-being, and continues to closely monitor the situation.”
Visibility conditions began to show marginal improvement only after 9 am, allowing operations to gradually stabilise. However, the early morning disruption had a cascading effect on flight schedules throughout the day, impacting passengers travelling both to and from the capital.
According to IMD, dense to very dense fog is likely to persist over Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and west Uttar Pradesh over the next few days.Early morning and late-night hours are expected to be most affected, with commuters advised to exercise caution while travelling.IMD has indicated that dense fog conditions are likely to continue till at least January 1, with the possibility of further extensions depending on local weather patterns. Airlines advised passengers to remain in touch through official communication channels and to check flight status before leaving for the airport.
According to the IMD reports, the presence of western disturbances in the region has also contributed to favourable conditions for fog formation across the Indo-Gangetic plains. Commuters are advised to stay alert and cautious before heading out.
