Know all about tolerance VS acceptance in relationships

In a relationship, tolerance and acceptance play an important role. You might consider tolerating a particular behavior in a relationship but if you can't fully accept someone for who they are, you are in for chaos. Tolerance doesn't allow you to fully accept someone's flaws whereas acceptance is when you wholeheartedly accept the person for who they are. There is a thin line between both of them and that counts in for some differences, especially in a relationship. Here are 8 differences you need to know.

2/9

All are individuals

While entering a relationship, you need to be open-minded that this person is an individual with different sets of interests and hobbies. At first, it becomes a big deal to tolerate the personality of an individual when they are in complete contrast to you. Gradually, you even start to accept them for who they are. If it is still not happening, you might consider moving on because no one should have to change anything about themselves for someone else.

3/9

Love them for who they are

When you can't find anything that turns you off on the other person, everything is perfect. This is acceptance when you wholeheartedly can accept their presence. It's not something you will put so much thought into if you can tolerate it easily. You just simply complement each other for who they are.

4/9

Respecting each other's needs

For a relationship to be healthy, the partners need to understand each other better. They need to be open-minded about the fact that their partner may have companions outside of their relationship whom they want to spend time with. In reality, it's actually healthy. Now either one can battle with their emotions to let their partner have that freedom which would be tolerating. Or the person can accept it wholeheartedly. That's the difference between the two.

5/9

Judging

If you are constantly passing judgments to your partner, this might make them feel that you are just tolerant of their behavior. This tells them that you ain't accepting them which makes them change things about themselves which isn't actually right. This will definitely harm your relationship in a bad way.

6/9

Codependency

Codependency is one of the major reasons why partners tolerate each other habits and behaviors. While it's not totally accepting it, it's just keeping up with the partner for all the love and attention you are getting from each other. Unfortunately, codependency also leads to a lack of communication which needs to be fixed for a great relationship.

7/9

Faults

As we move forward in a relationship, we tolerate the flaws fully and may even start to accept them. If we just tolerate the behavior, it may not tell the other person to stop it. But talking about someone's flaws, they can be accepted wholeheartedly without harm to either of the individuals in a relationship.

8/9

Change

Changing little things that bug you in a relationship is absolutely fine, it's like working towards a beautiful relationship. But when someone asks you to change your personality or character for them, then you must not tolerate that comes your way. Tolerating can be a great thing only when it's done in a healthy way.

9/9

Time together

Spending quality time together with your partner gets even more interesting when you accept every little thing about them. That's what wholehearted acceptance seems like. But when you find yourself complaining about your partner's behavior with someone else, it means you are only tolerating their behavior. This can be a lot frustrating at times.
