They may change your life

If you have been feeling dark, heavy, and negative lately, it is recommended that you see a therapist. It helped me so much! It revived my relationships not just with my spouse but with my friends too. I was able to accept all aspects of my aging parents, and it brought back the lost confidence in me. I began trusting again and it sure was a blessing. Here are 5 things that I learned in therapy.

Self-reflection

Therapy taught me the importance of self-awareness and the power of introspection. I have learned to identify and understand my emotions, thoughts, and behaviour more effectively. I became more aware of who I am, what I am capable of, and the internal turmoil that I was so used to ignoring. I recognised all those patterns, triggers, and unresolved issues that were influencing my life in negative ways.

Coping strategies

I discovered there are some better coping mechanisms. I learned that it's okay to experience a wide range of emotions, and how I respond to them matters. My therapist helped me identify and practice healthy ways to cope with stress, anxiety, and difficult emotions. Breathing exercises, mindfulness practices, and grounding techniques have become invaluable tools to manage overwhelming feelings.

Boundaries

Establishing and maintaining boundaries was a crucial topic in my therapy sessions. Learning to set boundaries was important for me as I wanted to protect my well-being and have healthier relationships with others. My therapist guided me in recognising my limits, understanding and respecting others' boundaries, and being more assertive in expressing my needs and desires.

Challenge negative thoughts

Challenge negative thoughts

Therapy provided me with a safe space to address and challenge negative thought patterns and even all those self-limiting beliefs. By working with my therapist, I began to replace negative self-talk with more positive and constructive inner dialogue. This shift in thinking helped me build my self-confidence ad I became more optimistic about life.

Forgiveness

Forgiveness

Through therapy, I learned the importance of forgiveness for others and myself. Holding onto grudges and past hurts had only given me emotional pain. My therapist helped me understand that forgiveness frees me from the burden of carrying resentment. I also discovered the significance of self-compassion and treating myself with kindness, especially during challenging times.
