2-3 dates daily

In an Instagram video on March 27, Dr Sam Watts, a trained clinical practitioner of Ayurveda, who has a PhD in cancer research from the University of Southampton, spoke about what happens to your body when you eat 2-3 dates every day.

Dates and benefits

In the caption he wrote, “This is why we should all be making dates an integral part of our daily diet.” In the video he said, “In Ayurvedic medicine, dates are revered as one of the most important health tonic foods, and Western research validates that. It shows that if we regularly consume 2 to 3 dates a day, ideally in the morning, it gives us profound changes. They induce profound changes in the body.” “It is a simple dietary change for boosting our health and well-being, changing the physiology of our body in the direction of health. Eating 2-3 dates a day can pay dividends.”

Dr Sam Watts said, “They are brilliant for providing a steady supply of energy without any resulting energy crash." “They are also brilliant for supporting heart health. The potassium and the antioxidants in dates have been proven to lower blood pressure and reduce the risks of many types of heart disease,” he added.
He also said that dates are good for metabolic health because there is evidence that shows dates actually lower and stabilise blood sugar than raising it and that is so important for optimising our metabolic well-being.
He concluded the video saying that dates contain antioxidants that are proven to reduce inflammation in the brain and that is linked to a reduced risk of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, and high levels of concentration, psychometric ability and memory.

Dates are loaded with antioxidants that help reduce inflammation, boost immunity, and protect cells from damage. Plus, they may support brain health and improve memory due to their natural compounds. They are loaded with vitamin C, vitamin E, and flavonoids. Antioxidants help fight free radicals that cause premature aging—reducing wrinkles, fine lines, and dullness.

What research says?

As per a study published by the National Library of Medicine, dates and their constituents show a role in disease prevention through antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial activity. They have a wide range of phenolic compounds including p-coumaric, ferulic, and sinapic acids, flavonoids, and procyanidins. Palm date fruits also constitute thirteen flavonoid glycosides of luteolin, quercetin, and apigenin at different stages of maturity. They are also proven to have medicinal values summarized in terms of therapeutic implications in the various types of diseases through antioxidant, anticancer and ant-diabetic character.

Is it safe to eat dates in diabetes

Dates have a high natural sugar content, but they also contain fiber, which helps slow down the release of sugar into the bloodstream. Eating 1–2 dates occasionally, preferably paired with a handful of nuts, can be a good way to satisfy a sweet craving without causing a major blood sugar spike. However, portion control is key, and it’s always best to monitor your blood sugar levels to see how your body responds.
