5 Traditional Bajra recipes that are perfect for winters
Staying fit and healthy in winters may seem like a tough challenge, and this is because of the over indulgence, unhealthy eating habits and sedentary lifestyle. However, with just a few changes in the diet one can actually lose weight and stay in shape, and this where this one millet can help you manage your health and weight easily without compromising on taste.

Pearl millet is a gluten free flour that has been used in several parts of the country as a staple, but with more inclination towards healthier food choices bajra has turned out to be a rage among health enthusiasts. However, eating the same thing again and again can be quite monotonous. So, if you too have been bored with monotony and want to include this healthy millet in your diet, but in an interesting way, then we have some amazing recipes which you can make at home and relish without putting in much efforts.
Bajra Chocolate Pancake
To make this quick pancake you need ½ cup of bajra flour and equal portion of jaggery. To begin with this pancake recipe, sift the flour using a sieve, then to the flour add ½ cup melted jaggery, 1 tablespoon cocoa powder, 1 mashed banana, make a smooth batter by mixing these ingredients with warm water. You can also use warm milk to make the batter. Heat a pan and grease it with some butter, then gently pour a ladle of the batter, make the pancakes by flipping the sides and serve hot with maple syrup or dates syrups and butter.
Bajra Chilla
If you are looking for a quick and healthy breakfast chila, then try including bajra by following this easy recipe. To make this recipe, you need 1cup bajra flour, 3 tablespoon rice flour, 1medium onion, 1 chopped tomato, 1 chopped capsicum, 3 green chilies, 1 handful coriander leaves. To make a smooth batter by mixing all the ingredients. In the meantime, heat a pan and add ghee, pour a ladle of the batter, cook by flipping sides and serve hot with curd and pickle.
Bajra Pulav
To make this amazing pulav, you need a 1 cup pearl millet. To begin with this recipe, dry roast the pearl millet and keep it aside. Take a pan and add 2 tablespoon ghee, once the ghee is hot enough add in handful of cashews and almonds along with some raisins, toss them and transfer on a plate. Then to the same ghee add in the bay leaf, cloves, star aisne, cardamom and some jeera, add in chopped onions, tomatoes, green chilies, shredded chicken and then spice up the pulav with salt, pepper, red chili powder, turmeric powder, kasuri methi, coriander powder and cook the masala. Lastly, add the dry roasted bajra, toss the biryani, sprinkle some water and cover the lid. Once the pulav is ready garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot!
Bajra Khichdi
To make the easiest dish with Bajra Khichdi, take one cup bajra, 1 cup lobia or any other lentil. Take a large tray, add in 1 cup bajra, sprinkle 4- 5 tablespoon water, once the bajra is moist. Grind it in a blender. Then take a pressure cooker, add in the bajra along with the lentils, add water, salt, pepper and turmeric. Cook for three whistles and release the steam, transfer to a bowl and add ghee. Enjoy.
Bajra Soup
To make a quick hearty bajar soup, take a pan and ½ cup bajra flour along with some water, reduce the flame and allow the bajra to cook. Then add in chopped veggies like carrots, peas, onions, ginger and garlic paste, cover the lid and allow the soup to cook. Once done garish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
Bajra kheer
To make this easy bajra kheer, dry roast the ½ cup bajra and keep aside. Take a pan and add ghee, once the ghee is hot enough add in handful of cashews, almonds and raisins, toss nicely and save for garnishing.
In the meantime, take a deep bottomed vessel and add in 1 litre milk along with ½ cup sugar, keep stirring till the milk is reduced to half. Then add in 3 tablespoons of condensed milk along with roasted Bajra, cook the kheer and add 1 teaspoon cardamom powder along with dry fruits and nuts. Serve and indulge in the sweetness.
