Vypen election result 2026: INC Tony Chammany wins Vypen seat by over 15600 votes

Tony Chammany of INC secures Vypen with 15648 votes, beating CPI (M) candidate MB Shyni.

Vypen Assembly constituency, numbered 79, lies in Ernakulam district of Kerala and forms part of the Ernakulam parliamentary constituency.

Formed through the 2008 delimitation from the former Njarackal seat (established in 1957), it covers the Vypen island and nearby coastal areas like Njarackal and Edavanakkad, home to around 165,000 electors.

This general category seat thrives on fishing, tourism, and port-related activities, bolstered by its strategic position near Kochi harbor.CPI(M), within the Left Democratic Front (LDF), has dominated since 2011, securing consistent victories. K. N. Unnikrishnan is the current MLA, having won the 2021 election with 53,858 votes (41.24per cent share), defeating INC's Deepak Joy (45,657 votes) by a margin of 8,201 votes (6.28per cent) at 75.89per cent turnout. Prior wins include S. Sharma's 2016 triumph (68,526 votes, 19,353 margin) and 2011 success.
