UP CM Yogi Adityanath addresses Assembly on supplementary budget, hails economic growth in state
NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday spoke in the state assembly during a discussion on the supplementary budget for 2025–26, outlining changes in the state’s economy, infrastructure and governance over the past decade.
Addressing the house, Adityanath said Uttar Pradesh had moved away from its earlier image as a lagging state and was now running a revenue surplus. He said the state’s gross state domestic product (GSDP) had grown nearly three times, from Rs 12.88 lakh crore during 2012–16 to an estimated Rs 35–36 lakh crore at present. According to him, per capita income had also increased from Rs 43,000 to around Rs 1.2 lakh.
He said access to banking and credit had improved, with the credit-deposit ratio rising from 44 per cent earlier to about 62–65 per cent.
On infrastructure, the chief minister said Uttar Pradesh now had 22 expressways and 16 operational airports, including four international ones.
Adityanath also told the house that investment proposals worth Rs 15 lakh crore had been implemented, leading to direct employment for over 60 lakh people. He said the MSME sector, with around 96 lakh units, supports nearly two crore families across the state.
He also referred to growth in agriculture and efforts to expand renewable energy capacity, including solar power projects. In healthcare, he said 81 medical colleges had been established to strengthen medical services.
On law and order, the chief minister said the government follows a zero-tolerance approach to crime. He said this had helped create a sense of security for traders and residents.
The supplementary budget, amounting to Rs 24,498.98 crore, focuses on areas such as technology, health and women’s welfare. With this addition, the total budget size for the 2025–26 financial year crosses Rs 8.33 lakh crore.
