NEW DELHI: Pulok Gohain of the BJP emerged victorious in the election, securing a total of 85184 votes. He defeated Congress candidate Devid Phukan by a decisive margin of 48497 votes.
In Assam’s Tinsukia constituency, BJP’s Pulok Gohain is contesting against Congress leader Devid Phukan in a significant political face-off.
As attention turns to the likely outcome, exit polls released by multiple agencies suggest that the BJP-led government is poised to secure a comfortable majority in the state.
Such a result would enable
Himanta Biswa Sarma to continue serving as the chief minister. Polling for all 126 constituencies was held on April 9, with the state registering a voter turnout of over 85 per cent, one of the highest levels seen in recent times.
The strong turnout was evident across both rural and urban regions, pointing to a broad and enthusiastic participation by voters.
Tinsukia is an assembly constituency in Assam's Tinsukia district, part of the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha area, blending urban commerce, tea estates, and a diverse population. Sanjoy Kishan of the BJP is the current MLA, having won in 2021 and previously in 2016.
In 2021, he secured 85,857 votes (66 per cent share), defeating Shamsher Singh of Assam Jatiya Parishad (15,060 votes, 12 per cent) by a landslide margin of 70,797 votes. Urban-rural infrastructure gaps, including roads, flooding from nearby rivers, and traffic in this commercial hub, challenge development despite the BJP's dominance.
Tea industry employment, youth job creation, and balancing industrial growth with welfare for SC/ST communities are priorities. Voter turnout hit 75.5per cent in 2021, reflecting high engagement amid anti-CAA sentiments in the past.
