Tingkhong election results 2026: BJP's Bimal Borah won against Congress's Bipul Gogoi

NEW DELHI: Bimal Borah of the BJP emerged victorious in the election, securing a total of 88912 votes. He defeated Congress candidate Bipul Gogoi by a decisive margin of 49026 votes.

There were a total of 177658 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2026 Assembly election in Tingkhong Assembly constituency, of whom 85700 were male, 91958 female and 0 belonged to the third gender.

Exit polls released on Wednesday evening for the high-stakes Assam battle indicate a clear majority for the incumbent Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government, with most pollsters favouring the BJP to secure a third consecutive term in the tea-producing state.

Tingkhong is an assembly constituency in Assam's Dibrugarh district, part of the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha area, characterized by its rural tea economy and tribal influences. Bimal Bora (also spelled Bimal Borah) of BJP is the current MLA, elected in 2021 and re-elected from 2016. In 2021, he won with 62,675 votes (53per cent share), defeating INC's Atuwa Munda/Etuwa Munda (34,281 votes, 29per cent) by 28,394 votes. Developmental gaps persist despite government schemes, including rural infrastructure, welfare delivery, and economic upliftment in tea-dependent areas, as reviewed by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. Political activity focuses on projects like sports complexes and grassroots schemes amid calls for transparency and impact.
