Thrikkakara Election Result 2026: Uma Thomas Secures Landslide Victory

Congress candidate Uma Thomas registers a massive win in Thrikkakara, securing over 83,000 votes and defeating CPI(M)’s Pushpa Das by more than 50,000 votes. The result highlights a strong and clear mandate in favor of Congress in the constituency.

Thrikkakara Assembly constituency, numbered 83, is in Ernakulam district of Kerala and part of the Ernakulam parliamentary constituency.

Created during the 2008 delimitation, it includes 22 wards of Kochi Municipal Corporation (Edappally and Vyttila zones, like Vennala, Palarivattom, Vyttila, Kadavanthra, and Panampilly Nagar) plus Thrikkakara Municipality in Kanayannur taluk, with about 197,000 electors.

This upscale urban-residential seat buzzes with IT professionals, middle-class suburbs, and commercial hubs near Kakkanad's Infopark, blending high education levels, tech growth, and connectivity to Kochi's core. The Indian National Congress (INC) of the United Democratic Front (UDF) has firmly held it since inception, with Uma Thomas as the current MLA following her 2022 by-election win.

She secured a landslide with 86,971 votes (64.22per cent share), defeating CPI(M)'s M. Swaraj (61,955 votes) by 25,016 votes (18.48per cent) at 68.75per cent turnout. Earlier, P.T. Thomas won in 2021 (61,451 votes, 11,996 margin over CPI(M)'s Sebastian Paul) and 2016, while Benny Behanan took 2011. INC's dominance reflects strong urban voter preference amid LDF challenges and BJP's 10-15per cent shares.

Key issues include severe monsoon flooding and drainage failures in low-lying zones, traffic gridlock on busy corridors like SA Road amid metro delays, skyrocketing housing costs from IT influx, waste management strains, water supply disruptions, and demands for better schools, hospitals, and public transport links to Infopark.
