Thirunallar election result 2026: BJP’s G.N.S. Rajasekaran wins by over 9,500 votes

NEW DELHI: G.N.S. Rajasekaran of the Bharatiya Janata Party has won the Thirunallar Assembly constituency in Puducherry with a commanding margin of 9,526 votes. He secured 16,829 votes, defeating R. Kamalakannan of the Indian National Congress, who polled 7,303 votes. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam candidate A. Raja Mohamed finished third with 3,201 votes, while other candidates, including Naam Tamilar Katchi and independents, trailed significantly.

Thirunallar, known for the Saneeshwaran temple and its mix of agrarian and working-class voters, witnessed a closely watched contest among the BJP, Congress and TVK. The result reflects a shift in the constituency’s electoral pattern, which has seen changing political loyalties over the years.

The seat had seen varied outcomes in previous elections, including a Congress win in 2016 and an independent victory in 2021. In 2026, voter turnout rose to 87.97 percent, compared to 83.89 percent in 2021, with steady polling throughout the day indicating strong participation across the constituency.
