The Thalli constituency witnessed a robust defence by the DMK-led alliance in the 2026 Assembly elections, with T Ramachandran of the CPI as he faced a high-profile challenge from Dr Nagesh Kumar of the BJP, who sought to consolidate the opposition vote. The contest was further energised by G Suresh representing the TVK, who successfully tapped into the regional youth vote and tribal welfare issues.
The 2021 election saw T Ramachandran (CPI) secure a landslide victory with 120,641 votes (62.82%), defeating Dr C. Nagesh Kumar (BJP), who polled 64,415 votes, with a massive margin of 56,226 votes. In 2016, the seat was won by Y Prakaash (DMK) with 74,429 votes, defeating T Ramachandran by 6,245 votes.
Voter turnout this year reached 85.78%, a notable increase from the 77.24% recorded in 2021.
Thalli (No. 56), known as "Little England," is a unique hilly segment in Krishnagiri district. Its economy revolves around floriculture, forest-based livelihoods, and the Anchetty forest range. With a large tribal population and remote hamlets, it is a critical seat for monitoring tribal rights and ecological conservation in Tamil Nadu.
The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections were held in a single phase on April 23, recording a high voter turnout of 85.15%, with results declared on May 4. The polls witnessed an intense three-way contest that challenged the state’s traditional bipolar political structure.
