Sujapur assembly results 2026: TMC's Sabina Yeasmin beats Indian National Congress' Abdul Hannan

In Sujapur in 2026, TMC's Sabina Yeasmin beat Congress's Md. Abdul Hannan by more than 52,000 vote. Bhartiya Janata Party's Abhijit Rajak came third with 20066 votes. Sujapur is a general constituency in Malda district, under the Maldaha Dakshin Lok Sabha seat. It covers Sujapur, one of the notable towns of Malda along the Ganga, and has a significant Muslim population — the seat is among the most Muslim-dominated in Malda's constituency map, with SC and ST ratios very low at about three and zero per cent respectively. Congress had a strong presence here, particularly through the Isha Khan Choudhury political family.In 2016, Isha Khan Choudhury won the seat for Congress, defeating the TMC candidate comfortably. However, 2021 saw a complete rout of Congress: TMC's Md. Abdul Ghani won with an extraordinary 73 per cent vote share, giving TMC a majority of tens of thousands in a seat Congress had held just five years earlier. For 2026, TMC has fielded Sabina Yeasmin, while Congress fields Md. Abdul Hannan in what looks a steep challenge to recover the seat. BJP's Abhijit Rajak, given the Muslim-majority character of the constituency, is unlikely to be the primary challenger.
