Periyakulam (SC) election results 2026: TVK’s G Sabari Iyngaran wins, VCK’s Sakthivel finishes second

The 2026 Assembly election witnessed a multi-cornered contest featuring Sakthivel alias Aatral Arasu (VCK/SPA), Dr. K. Kathirkamu (AMMK/NDA), Vimala R. (NTK), and G. Sabari Iyngaran of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). In the outcome, G. Sabari Iyngaran emerged victorious, while Sakthivel secured the second position.

In the 2016 Assembly elections, AIADMK’s Dr. K. Kathirkamu (now contesting for AMMK) won with 90,599 votes, defeating DMK’s V. Anbazhagan by 14,350 votes. In 2011, the seat was held by CPI(M)’s A. Laser as part of the AIADMK alliance. The 2026 campaign is centered around issues such as welfare schemes, agricultural infrastructure for the Varaha River basin, and the broader debate between Dravidian political identity and national integration.

While the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) has fielded Aatral Arasu of the VCK to consolidate its southern base, the opposition National Democratic Alliance (NDA) features the return of former MLA Dr. K. Kathirkamu under the AMMK banner.

The presence of G. Sabari Iyngaran (TVK) and Vimala R. (NTK) further intensifies the contest in this historically AIADMK-leaning bastion.
