Paramathi-Velur Assembly constituency is located in Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu and forms part of the Namakkal Lok Sabha constituency. Sekar S of AIADMK emerged as the winner with 61,349 votes, defeating Moorthiy KS of DMK, with a narrow margin of 308 votes.
The seat lies in a largely agrarian belt of the Kongu region and has historically witnessed contests between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), and regional parties such as the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), reflecting the shifting alliance dynamics in western Tamil Nadu.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had 2,08,633 electors, with 1,75,306 valid votes polled. DMK candidate K S Moorthiy secured victory with 74,418 votes, narrowly defeating AIADMK candidate Rajendhiran R, who polled 73,600 votes. The margin of victory stood at 818 votes, making it one of the closest contests in the region during that election cycle.
Earlier, in the 2011 Assembly elections, Paramathi-Velur had 1,86,699 electors, with 1,51,705 valid votes recorded. AIADMK candidate U Thaniyarasu won the seat with 82,682 votes, defeating PMK candidate Vadivel C, who secured 51,664 votes. The winning margin of 31,018 votes reflected a strong mandate for the AIADMK during that election.
The results across these two elections indicate a competitive political landscape, with different parties securing victories depending on alliances and the broader state-level political trends in Tamil Nadu.
