Ozhukarai election results 2026: AINRC’s K Narayanasamy defeats TVK’s Sasibalan by 3,501 votes

All India NR Congress’s K Narayanasamy alias won from Ozhukarai constituency in Puducherry, defeating Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s Sasibalan by a margin of 3,501 votes.

Ozhukarai constituency incumbent M Sivasankar, defending his seat this time under the Congress (SPA) banner, faced a formidable challenge from the AINRC (NDA) heavyweight Dr K Narayanasamy, whose entry signalled the ruling alliance’s intent to dominate the urban core. This traditional power struggle was further unsettled by S Sasibalan of the TVK, who successfully courted the city's professional class and younger voters.

Ozhukarai, a densely populated urban constituency located in the northern part of Puducherry, is characterised by its mix of residential neighbourhoods, commercial activity, and proximity to the urban core.

In the 2021 assembly elections, Sivasankar, then contesting as an independent candidate, secured victory by defeating NG Pannir Selvam (AINRC) by a narrow margin of 819 votes. In the 2016 assembly elections, MNR Balan had won the seat and later went on to serve as Deputy Speaker of the assembly, reflecting shifting electoral outcomes over time.

The constituency recorded a steady increase in voter participation as approximately 87.83% casted their votes this year, compared to 80.46% in the 2021 elections.

The 2026 Puducherry assembly elections took place on April 9, recording a historic voter turnout of 91.23%, with results declared on May 4. The contest shifted from a traditional two-way battle into a high-stakes three-way struggle between the ruling NDA (led by the AINRC and BJP), the SPA (anchored by the Congress and DMK), and the newly formed TVK–NMK alliance headed by actor-politician Vijay.
