Oussudu election results 2026: Congress’s P Karthikeyan wins Oussudu, defeats BJP’s E Theeppainthan by 4,018 votes

Congress’s P Karthikeyan won from Oussudu constituency in Puducherry, defeating Bharatiya Janata Party’s E Theeppainthan by a margin of 4,018 votes.

Oussudu turned into a high-stakes arena for political heavyweights. The BJP (NDA) fielded former MLA E Theeppainthan, who sought to reclaim the seat he previously won in 2016, while the Congress (SPA) looked to P Karthikeyan to secure the constituency’s traditional support. This rivalry was further tested by the entry of S Saraganabava from the TVK, who aimed to mobilise the youth vote.
In the 2021 assembly elections, Saravanan won the seat by defeating Congress' P Karthikeyan by a narrow margin of 1,880 votes. In the 2016 assembly elections, Theeppainthan, then representing the Congress, had won the seat by 2,330 votes, with Sai J Saravanan finishing as the runner-up.

For the 2026 polls, the constituency recorded one of the highest voter participation rates in the UT, with approximately 94.39% showing higher engagement as compared to 93.35% voter turnout in the 2021 assembly elections.

Oussudu is a predominantly rural Scheduled Caste constituency located along the western border of Puducherry, defined by its ecological significance around Oussudu Lake, which plays a vital role in irrigation and local livelihoods. The region is characterised by agriculture, labour-based employment, and dispersed rural settlements with strong panchayat influence, shaping a grassroots-driven political landscape marked by multi-party competition.

The 2026 Puducherry assembly elections took place on April 9, recording a historic voter turnout of 91.23%, with results declared on May 4. The contest shifted from a traditional two-way battle into a high-stakes three-way struggle between the ruling NDA (led by the AINRC and BJP), the SPA (anchored by the Congress and DMK), and the newly formed TVK–NMK alliance headed by actor-politician Vijay.
