Metiaburuz is a Kolkata district constituency under the Kolkata Dakshin Lok Sabha constituency, situated in the southwesternmost part of the city along the Hooghly river. It is historically one of Kolkata's most Muslim-dominated constituencies, with a culture deeply influenced by the legacy of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah, the last Nawab of Awadh, who lived in exile here in the 19th century.
In 2021, TMC held the Metiaburuz seat comfortably, polling strongly among its Muslim-majority electorate.
The constituency has been firmly in the TMC column since the party came to power in 2011, and the party consistently polls above 50 per cent in this urban seat.
In 2016, TMC again held the constituency without much difficulty, reflecting the party's deep roots in minority-dominated urban seats across Kolkata. The seat's unique cultural heritage — mosques, imambargahs, and the legacy of Awadhi culture — makes it distinct within Kolkata. Economic concerns revolve around small-scale trade, craftsmanship, and daily wage work.
The Kolkata Dakshin Lok Sabha seat covering Metiaburuz was won by TMC's Mala Roy in 2024.
