Mangalam election results 2026: AINRC’s N Rangasamy defeats DMK’s S S Rangan by 7,050 votes

All India NR Congress’s N Rangasamy won from Mangalam constituency in Puducherry, defeating Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s S S Rangan by a margin of 7,050 votes.

Mangalam became a high-profile "VVIP" battleground following the entry of chief minister N Rangasamy (AINRC), who chose to contest here alongside his traditional base in Thattanchavady. To counter this move, the DMK fielded SS Rangan, while MK Sathia represented the TVK as a formidable third entrant.

In the 2021 assembly elections, C Djeacoumar of AINRC won the seat by defeating DMK candidate Sun Kumaravel by a margin of 2,751 votes. In the 2016 assembly elections, AINRC's SV Sugumaran secured victory by defeating Kumaravel by a larger margin of 5,563 votes, indicating a narrowing gap in subsequent elections. The entry of Rangasamy this year turned Mangalam into one of the most-watched constituencies in the UT.

Following the trend of high voter engagement, Mangalam was one of the top performers in the union territory this year, recording a massive 94.14% voter turnout. This exceeds the 89.2% recorded in 2021, mirroring the record-breaking participation seen across Puducherry.

Mangalam is a semi-urban constituency located in the southern part of Puducherry. It characterised by its mix of residential localities, small businesses, and expanding civic infrastructure.

The 2026 Puducherry assembly elections took place on April 9, recording a historic voter turnout of 91.23%, with results declared on May 4. The contest shifted from a traditional two-way battle into a high-stakes three-way battle between the ruling NDA (led by the AINRC and BJP), the SPA (anchored by the Congress and DMK), and the newly formed TVK–NMK alliance headed by actor-politician Vijay.
