Mailam election results 2026: AIADMK's Shanmugam C VE wins against TVK's Vijay Niranjan A

AIADMK's Shanmugam C VE emerges victorious, securing 82353 votes against TVK's Vijay Niranjan A, by a margin of 30041 votes.

The Mailam constituency witnessed a high-profile showdown in the 2026 Assembly elections. The AIADMK fielded veteran leader C Shanmugam, returning to state assembly politics to reclaim the party’s dominance. He faced a stiff challenge from L Venkatesan, representing the DMDK as part of the DMK-led alliance, while Vijay Niranjan A of the TVK and Vidjaivikram S of the NTK introduced a vigorous youth-centric dynamic to the race.

In the 2021 election, Sivakumar C (PMK) secured victory with 81,044 votes (45.79% vote share), narrowly defeating Dr Masilamani R (DMK) by a margin of 2,230 votes. In the 2016 election, Masilamani R (DMK) won the seat with 70,880 votes (41.4% vote share), defeating the AIADMK’s Annadurai K by 12,306 votes.

Voter turnout reached 89.64%, a notable increase from 80% in 2021. This hike is largely due to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive, which cleansed the rolls and boosted participation among young voters and agricultural labourers.

Mailam (Assembly constituency No. 71) is a general segment in Villupuram district. Primarily agrarian, it remains a critical indicator of rural sentiment and political influence in northern Tamil Nadu.

The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections were held in a single phase on April 23, recording a high voter turnout of 85.15%, with results declared on May 4. The polls witnessed an intense three-way contest that challenged the state’s traditional bipolar political structure. The electoral battle was primarily between the DMK-led alliance, including the INC and other parties, headed by MK Stalin and the AIADMK-led alliance, headed by Edappadi K Palaniswami, along with the BJP and other parties. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), marking actor Vijay’s political debut as a third force across all 234 constituencies.
