Maharashtra, Jharkhand Election 2024 Live Updates: Sacked IAS officer Khedkar's father enters Maharashtra assembly poll fray

Maharashtra, Jharkhand Election 2024 Live Updates: Maharashtra and Jharkhand are gearing up for high-stakes Legislative Assembly elections in November 2024. The Election Commission has scheduled Maharashtra's single-phase election for November 20, with results to be declared on November 23. The 288-member assembly has witnessed significant political shifts, most notably Eknath Shinde's rise as Chief Minister after breaking away from Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena to ally with the BJP. The BJP, which secured 122 seats in 2014, faced turbulent dynamics leading to the Maha Vikas Aghadi government before Shinde's 2022 takeover.

Maharashtra Elections 2024 Live Updates: In 2nd list of 20, Shiv Sena picks Deora, Nirupam & ex-BJP netas
Shiv Sena Sunday released its second list of 20 candidates, including former Congress netas Milind Deora (Worli) and Sanjay Nirupam (Dindoshi), taking its tally of nominees to 65, reports Chaitanya Marpakwar. Several ex-BJP netas feature on the list. The party has dropped its sitting Palghar MLA Srinivas Wanaga—the only one to be dropped without a family member being accommodated among Sena’s 41 MLAs—while a sitting RS MP and two sitting MLCs have been given tickets.
In Mumbai, those on the list include former BJP corporator Murji Patel from Andheri East, former MLA Tukaram Kathe from Chembur, former corporator Suvarna Karanje from Vikhroli and ex-BJP neta Nilesh Rane from Kudal. In place of Wanaga, ex-MP Rajendra Gavit has been given a ticket for Palghar. Sena has repeated its three remaining sitting MLAs in MMR—Vishwanath Bhoir from Kalyan (W), Shantaram More from Bhiwandi Rural and Balaji Kinikar from Ambernath. From Boisar, Sena has named BJP neta Vilas Tare. In Bhiwandi East, Sena fielded ex-BJP neta Santosh Shetty, who joined the party Friday.

Jharkhand a tough battleground but we hope to do well: Sarma
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP’s Jharkhand co-in-charge for assembly polls, described the state as a “tough battleground,” while affirming that the party will “leave no stone unturned in its endeavour to secure victory."
While five constituencies in Assam are also set for bypolls, Sarma has been dedicating minimal time to it, instead choosing to focus primarily on campaigning in Jharkhand.
“We are trying our best, but Jharkhand is a tough state to win. Hope we do well in the polls,” Sarma told mediapersons. “I am extremely preoccupied with Jharkhand elections. I have limited information regarding Assam bypolls and have asked our ministers and party members to oversee the campaign. I am uncertain as to whether I will be able to participate in campaigning here.”
