NEW DELHI: Firhad Hakim of the All India Trinamool Congress won the Kolkata Port constituency with 1,01,226 votes, defeating BJP candidate Rakesh Singh by a margin of 56,080 votes. Singh secured 45,146 votes. CPI(M)'s Faiyaz Ahmad Khan finished third with 2,571 votes, followed by Congress's Aquib Gulzar with 2,533 votes.
Fifteen candidates contested from Kolkata Port in West Bengal's 2026 Assembly Election, along with NOTA.
Kolkata Port is a Kolkata district constituency, part of the Kolkata Dakshin Lok Sabha constituency. As the name suggests, the seat is closely associated with the port and industrial belt of Kolkata's riverside area — one of the oldest industrial zones in eastern India. The electorate is a mix of port workers, small traders, and residents of densely populated tenement housing along the riverfront.
In 2021, TMC won the Kolkata Port constituency, part of the party's strong performance across south and central Kolkata. The seat has traditionally tilted in favour of the ruling party, given the dominant role of trade unions and government employment in the area.
In 2016, TMC similarly held the seat. The port area has seen infrastructure investments but also suffers from urban decay, outdated housing stock, and concerns over employment at the Kolkata Port Trust — now renamed the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port.
Employment at the port, civic facilities, and the regeneration of the waterfront are likely to be the central concerns of this constituency.
