NEW DELHI: Sewli Mohilary of the Bodoland Peoples Front won the Kokrajhar assembly seat, defeating Lawrence Islary of the United People's Party, Liberal by a margin of 39,633 votes. Mohilary secured 74,816 votes against Islary’s 35,183.
Manik Chandra Brahma of the Indian National Congress finished a distant third with 7,011 votes, while candidates from Voters Party International and independents secured marginal numbers.
Kokrajhar, a Scheduled Tribe-reserved constituency created in 2023, is part of the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat and lies within Assam’s Bodoland region. The result marks a decisive victory for the BPF in one of the state’s newly formed constituencies.
The seat recorded a voter turnout of 83.15%, slightly higher than 81.8% in 2021. Assam’s 2026 assembly elections saw a record turnout of 85.9%, with women voters at 86.5% surpassing male participation, reflecting strong electoral engagement across the state.
