Katigorah election results 2026: BJP's Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha wins against Congress's Amar Chand Jain

NEW DELHI: Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha of the Bharatiya Janata Party won the Katigorah constituency with 1,10,758 votes, defeating Congress candidate Amar Chand Jain by a margin of 37,680 votes. Jain secured 73,078 votes. Trinamool Congress candidate Md. Fazlur Rahman Laskar finished third with 1,989 votes.

Fifteen candidates contested from Katigorah in Assam's 2026 Assembly Election, along with NOTA.

The constituency went to polls on April 9 as part of the state's single-phase election.

In the 2021 assembly elections, the seat was won by Congress candidate Khalil Uddin Mazumder, who secured 83,268 votes. He defeated BJP's Gautam Roy, who polled 76,329 votes. The margin of victory stood at 6,939 votes.

For the 2026 elections, the BJP fielded Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, while the Congress nominated Amar Chand Jain.

The Assam assembly elections are part of a broader electoral exercise across multiple states and a Union Territory this year. Assam, Kerala and Puducherry went to polls on April 9, while Tamil Nadu voted on April 23. West Bengal held elections in two phases on April 23 and April 29.
