DMK candidate P S T Saravanan, who polled 62,889 votes. TVK candidate P Elumalai finished third with 51,666 votes.
The Kalasapakkam constituency witnessed an intense political showdown in the 2026 Assembly elections, with the DMK fielding incumbent P. S T Saravanan to defend his seat. He faced a high-profile challenge from Agri S S Krishnamurthy of the AIADMK, a former minister looking to reclaim his influence in the region. The entry of P Elumalai representing the TVK and Seetha Sivanandam of the NTK added a fresh competitive edge, particularly targeting the rural youth and agrarian workforce.
In the 2021 election, P S T Saravanan (DMK) secured victory with 94,134 votes (47.92% vote share), defeating V. Panneerselvam (AIADMK) by a margin of 9,222 votes. In the 2016 election, V. Panneerselvam (AIADMK) won the seat with 84,394 votes (45.41% vote share), defeating G. Kumar (INC) by a margin of 26,414 votes.
The voter turnout this year reached 90.83%, a notable hike from the 80.90% recorded in 2021. This increase is largely attributed to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive, which successfully updated the electoral rolls and improved participation among first-time voters and agrarian labourers across the taluks.
Kalasapakkam (Assembly constituency No. 65) is an agrarian segment in Tiruvannamalai district, comprising parts of Kalasapakkam, Polur, and Chengam taluks. Its economy is predominantly rural, making the constituency a vital indicator of agricultural sentiment and the political influence of rural communities in northern Tamil Nadu.
The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections were held in a single phase on April 23, recording a high voter turnout of 85.15%, with results declared on May 4. The polls witnessed an intense three-way contest that challenged the state’s traditional bipolar political structure. The electoral battle was primarily between the DMK-led alliance, including the INC and other parties, headed by MK Stalin and the AIADMK-led alliance, headed by Edappadi K Palaniswami, along with the BJP and other parties. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), marking actor Vijay’s political debut as a third force across all 234 constituencies.
