Kalamassery is a constituency located in Ernakulam district and is numbered 77 in the 140-member Kerala Assembly. The constituency was formed after the 2008 delimitation and first went to polls in its present form in 2011. It falls under the Ernakulam Lok Sabha constituency for parliamentary elections. Kalamassery is considered a stronghold of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M), which has retained the seat since 2011.
