NEW DELHI: TMC's Babar Ali won Jalangi seat by a margin of 21,516 votes. He won against CPM's Ianus Ali Sarkar and Naba Kumar Sarkar.
There were a total of 2,62,787 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2026 Assembly election in Jalangi Assembly constituency, of whom 1,36,138 were male, 1,26,647 female and 2 belonged to the third gender.
West Bengal voted across 294 seats in two phases on April 23 and April 29, recording a combined turnout of nearly 93 per cent — the highest since Independence and one of the largest in Indian electoral history. Notably, the surge was not limited to rural strongholds but saw a dramatic rise in urban centres, with women voters outpacing men to drive the record participation.
Jalangi is a key legislative assembly constituency in West Bengal's Murshidabad district. In the 2021 Assembly elections, the seat was won by the All India Trinamool Congress.
TMC candidate Abdur Razzak defeated CPM's Saiful Islam Molla by a margin of 79,276 votes. The Jalangi Assembly constituency is part of the Murshidabad Lok Sabha constituency.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Trinamool Congress candidate Abu Taher Khan won the Murshidabad parliamentary seat, defeating CPI(M) leader Md. Salim by a margin of 164,215 votes.
Jalangi is an entirely rural constituency with no urban voters on its electoral rolls. Voter turnout has remained high over the years, though it has gradually declined, recording 89.23 per cent in 2011, 83.92 per cent in 2016, 83.28 per cent in 2019, 85.12 per cent in 2021 and 80.65 per cent in 2024.
