NEW DELHI: TVK candidate Sengottaiyan KA emerged as the winner from Gobichettipalayam constituency, defeating DMK's Nallasivam. In the 2026 assembly elections Sengottaiyan secured 82,612 votes while Nallasiwam stood second with 65,992 votes.
Meanwhile, AIADMK's Prabhu VB secured 56,232 votes. Gobichettipalayam constituency is located in Erode district of Tamil Nadu and forms part of the Tiruppur Lok Sabha constituency. The seat lies in the Kongu region of western Tamil Nadu and represents a mix of agrarian and textile-linked communities.
Elections in the constituency have largely been shaped by contests between the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), and alliance partners such as the Indian National Congress (INC) and regional parties.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had 2,42,690 electors, with 2,04,628 valid votes polled. AIADMK candidate K A Sengottaiyan secured victory with 96,177 votes, defeating INC candidate S V Saravanan, who received 84,954 votes. The margin of victory stood at 11,223 votes, giving the AIADMK a clear win in the constituency.
Earlier, in the 2011 Assembly elections, Gobichettipalayam had 2,09,023 electors, with 1,74,184 valid votes recorded. AIADMK’s K A Sengottaiyan retained the seat with 94,872 votes, defeating Kongu Nadu Munnetra Kazhagam candidate N S Sivaraj, who secured 52,960 votes. The winning margin of 41,912 votes reflected strong support for the AIADMK during that election cycle.
Historically, the constituency has largely favoured the AIADMK. K A Sengottaiyan also won the seat in 2006, defeating DMK candidate G V Manimaran by 4,019 votes, while S S Ramaneedharan secured victory for the AIADMK in 2001. The results over multiple election cycles indicate a strong AIADMK presence in Gobichettipalayam, though electoral margins have varied depending on alliances and broader political trends in Tamil Nadu.
