Duliajan election results 2026: BJP's Rameswar Teli won against Congress's Dhruba Gogoi

NEW DELHI: Rameswar Teli of the BJP emerged victorious in the election, securing a total of 71467 votes. He defeated Congress candidate Dhruba Gogoi by a decisive margin of 10459 votes.

There were a total of 176624 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2026 Assembly election in Duliajan Assembly constituency, of whom 85443 were male, 91178 female and 3 belonged to the third gender.

Exit polls released on Wednesday evening for the high-stakes Assam battle indicate a clear majority for the incumbent Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government, with most pollsters favouring the BJP to secure a third consecutive term in the tea-producing state.

Duliajan is an assembly constituency in Assam's Dibrugarh district, famous as India's "oil town" due to the Oil India Limited headquarters, with a mix of tea gardens and urban pockets. Terash Gowalla of BJP is the current MLA, re-elected in 2021 after winning in 2016. In 2021, he won with 54,762 votes (42per cent share), defeating INC's Dhruba Gogoi (46,652 votes, 36per cent) by a margin of 8,110 votes. Poor road infrastructure, including potholes and neglect by the Public Works Department, sparks frequent protests and blockades, hindering access to schools and hospitals. Residents criticize the MLA for inaction on these basics despite oil revenues. Broader concerns include flooding risks, unemployment beyond oil sector jobs, and balancing industrial growth with local needs in this energy hub.
